    Vessela Letcheva was named honorary citizen of Zlataritsa

    The President of the Bulgarian Shooting Union and member of the IOC committee Vessela Letcheva was named an honorary citizen of Zlataritsa.

    Letcheva is a former Minister of Youth and Sports, MP, two-time Olympic medalist, five-time world champion, number 1 shooter of the 20th century. For nearly 40 years she established Bulgaria’s name as an athlete, leader, public figure.

    The title “Honorary Citizen of Zlataritsa” was awarded to Vessela Letcheva by the Mayor Petar Ganev on the day the town celebrated its 50th anniversary. The mayor recalled that over the years Letcheva has helped Zlataritsa in the implementation of a number of important projects.

    Many of you may be surprised that I call you fellow citizens. But I address you like this every time. This recognition is a great honour for me. I accept the title with a sense of great responsibility and affection for you. You know about my long sports career, I have conquered many peaks. And my most important goal has been to place the Bulgarian flag on the highest peak. Today I am proud to be Bulgarian,” said Vessela Letcheva in her speech.

    Zlataritsa celebrated 50 years since it was declared a town with lavish celebrations. A time capsule with a message for future generations was embedded in the central square.

    Today Vessela Letcheva will also be named an honorary citizen of Polski Trambesh at a ceremony in the town.
