Vessela Letcheva, President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) and of the Bulgarian Shooting Union, held a working meeting with Kalin Kamenov, Mayor of Vratsa. During the meeting, they discussed the possibility of the city hosting the Youth Olympic Festival in September.
In the coming weeks, a working group composed of representatives from the BOC and the Municipality of Vratsa will discuss which sports to include in this year’s edition, as well as the readiness of the sports facilities and accommodations.
“I would like to thank the mayor of Vratsa, who responded to the BOC’s invitation and presented his city as a potential host of the Olympic Festival. At the last meeting of the Executive Bureau, a decision was made to expand the geographic scope and include more cities across the country to welcome young athletes to the traditional Olympic Festival. “The goal is to engage municipalities and local sports organizations and to inspire more young people with the Olympic ideals and values,” commented BOC President Vessela Letcheva after the meeting.
Vratsa Mayor Kalin Kamenov, for his part, said that in recent years the city has been making serious efforts to develop its sports infrastructure, has a rich competition calendar, and is developing a number of both professional clubs and youth teams.
