The President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Vessela Letcheva, and Vice-President Slavi Binev were guests at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria and Ambassador Dong-be Kim.
“The Republic of Korea’s successes as an organizer of major sporting events and our friendly relations were the focus of our conversation with Ambassador Dong-be Kim. He is a friend not only of Bulgaria but also of the Bulgarian Taekwondo Federation,” Letcheva said after the meeting.
The Republic of Korea has hosted two Olympic Games – Seoul 1988 and Pyeongchang 2018. Both events set new standards in the organization of major competitions.
“As an athlete, I will never forget the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. They were not only the most successful competition in the history of Bulgarian sport, but also marked the end of the Cold War in sport, bringing together all the best athletes in the world after Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles 1984,” commented Letcheva, who won her first Olympic medal in Seoul.
