Vessela Letcheva met with the national water polo team for players under 16 years

The President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, Vessela Letcheva, met with the water polo team that won silver medals at Euro 2025 for players under 16 in Slovenia. In the final, the Bulgarians lost to France, but despite this, the achievement is historic for Bulgarian water polo. Thanks to their success in Ljubljana, our national team secured a place in the Elite Division for the next European Championship.

The coach of the silver medalists, Olympic champion Žarko Petrović, and the players talked about how the championship went and what the next big tournaments they will participate in are.

“It’s great that there is such a new generation of players. The medals you have won give you the incentive to continue training. Credit for your success also goes to the water polo federation, which has managed to attract a coach who has worked with the best water polo players in the world and knows how to make Olympic champions,” said Letcheva.

“The boys have put in a lot of effort and have enormous potential. We built this team in a year and a half. I am convinced that the medals will motivate them to train even harder,” commented Petrovic, who has been an assistant coach for the Serbian national team for many years, winning titles at the Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo Games.

Coach Petrovic emphasized that, in addition to training in the pool, the young water polo players also pay great attention to tactical and psychological preparation.
