Stiliyan Petrov received the special award during the ceremony “Footballer of the Year”. The record holder of matches for the national team grabbed the prize for the charity “Match of Hope”, organized by his foundation on September 6, 2023 at the stadium “Vasil Levski”.

The award was presented to him by Vessela Letcheva, two-time Olympic medalist, five-time world champion in shooting sports, former Minister of Youth and Sports, President of the Bulgarian Shooting Unions and member of PACC Commission.
“Every year DAKS Media with partners in the face of the Association of Sports Journalists and the Bulgarian Football Union distinguishes the greatest successes in Bulgarian football, the inspiring game of our players and to appreciate the best and most deserving. 2024 started differently – we had a congress of the Bulgarian Football Union and a new leadership. I would like to wish a successful mandate. I know it won’t be easy, but when we are together and united, success is possible.
During the Congress of the BFU I was impressed by the sportsmanlike attitude between winners and losers. It was the behavior of great athletes. Let’s continue to behave like this, to respect others, “said Vessela Letcheva.
“DAKS Media established a special award to evaluate efforts off the field. To those whose work remains hidden. This award began as a prize for development. This year, however, it will go to those who have the heart to work for causes, for the benefit of Bulgarian football. These are the leaders of today’s society. This year the award goes to Stiliyan Petrov. That it brings inspiration to thousands.
Last year, Stiliyan organized a charity match in which he raised 585,000 leva, with which he purchased equipment for 10 Bulgarian hospitals. I’m sure that money will reach the people who need it. Let us thank Stiliyan for his love and dedication to football and causes,” said Vessela Letcheva.
Stiliyan Petrov was unable to take his award personally because he is in the UK. This was done by former football player Mihail Alexandrov, who was involved in the organization of the charity game.
