With a competition in athletics with the participation of nearly 700 children from all over the country at the “Vasil Levski” National Stadium, the “Good example: #Sportuvam” initiative was launched. The Ministry of Youth and Sports, bTV Media Group and the Bulgarian Sports Totalizer celebrate the upcoming Bulgarian Sports Day.
Thousands of young people became part of the competitions in athletics, basketball, volleyball, karate, rhythmic gymnastics and others. Sports initiatives continue tomorrow in Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo and Burgas.
“It is important to involve young people in sports, to create habits for them, to convince them of the advantages that sports give. It is not only titles and medals, but also health, discipline, teamwork. Sports cultivates a number of qualities important for life. We want to give a chance for every child to touch sports, to feel its charm. I thank bTV for supporting us in this social mission, which is so important to us,” said the Minister of Youth and Sports Vesela Lecheva, who gave a symbolic start to the athletics tournament GoKids.
And the state championship in rhythmic gymnastics – category “Elite” joined the initiative with Olympic champion Erika Zafirova and the world champions from the ensemble as ambassadors.
“Sport also prepares for the difficulties in life,” said Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Erika Zafirova. “What can keep younh athletes in sports is their dream of success,” encouraged her followers the world champion with the ensemble Kamelia Petrova.
The former captain of our men’s national volleyball team Nikolay Ivanov, called for more sports initiatives such as “The good example: #Sportuvam. He attended a volleyball tournament in “Vazrazhdane” park in Sofia.
“It is very important for young people to do sports. To be healthy and to organize their day. Sports give qualities that will be useful to them in the future,” commented Ivanov.
Sport is a discipline, said the executive director of the basketball federation and former national player Filip Videnov, who encouraged the young basketball players and their parents, who also chose the court of “Sport Sofia”.
Hundreds of young karateka gathered at Asics Arena. The tenth edition of the international karate tournament “Sofia Open – Cup of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria” was opened by Minister Letcheva. She encouraged the children and their parents not to give up, to pursue their dreams, but above all not to abandon the sport.
“A few days are not enough to convince people how important and useful sport is, but I hope to ignite the children and their parents. This should not be a one-time initiative, but an ongoing process. Bulgarians love sports, they have their idols, they want to educate young people in this spirit. That’s why we should encourage them to do it,” said Minister Letcheva.
May 17 was declared the Day of Bulgarian Sports in 2006 in recognition of the enormous efforts of hundreds of Bulgarian athletes, coaches and figures in the field of sports. On May 17, 1894, the first physical education teachers from Switzerland arrived in Sofia.
