Dear athletes, coaches, colleagues,
On May 17 – the Day of Bulgarian Sport, we remember with gratitude the work of the Swiss teachers who came to our homeland in 1894. On the proposal of the State Agency for Youth and Sports and by a decision of the Council of Ministers of 4 August 2006, 17 May was declared the Day of Bulgarian Sport and a professional holiday for those working in the field of sport.
On this day, athletes, coaches, specialists, as well as all those who have linked their lives and professional paths with sport, recall again the great successes, the traditions of our school, the moments of pride we feel when our athletes represent our country at the world’s largest forums.
One year before the Olympic games, I wish all athletes successful preparation and the achievement of their goals and the realisation of their wildest dreams. I believe that at the 2025 Winter Olympics in Milan/Cortina we will once again have an occasion to experience national pride. And these successes will not be the result of chance, but the result of focused and active work in your federations.
Remember, as athletes we also have a responsibility to society – to be role models and set high standards. Sport has the unparalleled power to unite, inspire and create opportunities for all.
Together with the entire sports family – athletes, coaches, fans, organizations, we must build on the strong foundations bequeathed to us by our ancestors. We need to uphold the values of friendship, respect, fair play.
I wish you to be healthy and successful, to walk steadfastly on your path, to pass the difficulties with dignity, to fight every day to take at least one step forward.
Sincerely,
Vessela Letcheva
