The torchbearers handed the Olympic torch to Bulgarian Olympic Committee President Vessela Lecheva this morning. The traditional run in honor of Olympic Day – June 23 – started at the National Sports Academy (NSA), and shortly after 10:30 a.m., the runners arrived at the Vasil Levski National Stadium, where Letcheva was waiting for them, along with coaches, officials, sports officials from various federations, and members of the BOC.
Before reaching their final destination, the torchbearers passed through the park on Dragan Tsankov Boulevard, the Faculty of Public Health, Healthcare, and Tourism at the National Sports Academy on Gurgulyat Street, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“I promise to keep the flame alive, just as our ancestors have preserved it for a century,” Letcheva told the torchbearers.
“This year, the International Olympic Committee is marking this day under the motto ‘Let’s Move and Take the First Step Together.’ Let us all work together to help people of all ages take that first step and live a more dignified life, filled with inspiration. Olympism brings not only medals and pride, but also inspiration to all of us who love sports and are dedicated to this cause. Let’s move forward together! Happy holiday!” said Vesela Letcheva in her speech.
Later in the day, the President of Bulgarian Olympic Committee and Bulgarian Shooting Union will be in Troyan, where the Milan–Cortina bronze medalist, Lora Hristova, will participate in the celebration alongside the city’s entire sports community.
