Vessela Letcheva, President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and Vice President of European Shooting, held working meetings today with the President of the Turkish Olympic Committee and with the Organizing Committee of the European Summer Games.
The most prestigious competition, organized by the European Olympic Committees, will take place in 2027 in Istanbul, and Letcheva serves as coordinator and head of the working group of the European Shooting Confederation.
The delegation to Turkey also includes European Confederation President Alexander Ratner, Secretary General Yagor Aleinik, and Sports Director Elena Allen. They met with the newly elected President of the Turkish Olympic Committee, Prof. Veli Ozan Çakır, and subsequently with Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Hamza Yerikla.
“The hosts introduced us to the project several months ago, showing us the venue where the shooting competitions will take place, as well as the other facilities. Today we had the opportunity to see them in person and map out the next steps. Regarding the shooting events, they guarantee that the complex will be completed by April 2027, will undergo test competitions, and will be fully ready for the European Games. As for the other facilities, as well as the accommodations for the athletes, significant progress has been made. We continue to coordinate our actions and monitor the preparations. As President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, I said that it is a huge advantage for us that the Games are taking place in a neighboring and well-known country that has hosted numerous competitions and tournaments,” stated Vessela Letcheva.
The 2027 European Games will be the fourth edition of Europe’s largest multisport event and will take place from June 16 to 27, 2027. They also serve as a crucial stage in the qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Six thousand athletes from 50 countries will participate. The European Olympic Committees have approved the program, which includes 26 sports (including 22 Olympic disciplines).
