The chairman of the Bulgarian Shooting Union, Vesela Lecheva, will propose that the country host the European Shooting Championship for men and women in air weapons in 2026.
Lecheva returned from the General Assembly of the European Federation in Baku, Azerbaijan, during which candidacies for hosts in the coming years were discussed. 74 delegates from 47 federations participated in the meeting. During the Assembly Vessela Letcheva held a meeting with President Alexander Ratner.
Bulgaria’s proposal will be with “Arena Burgas”, the official opening of which was at the end of the mandate of the caretaker government of Galab Donev in May, reports the Bulgarian Federation.
“I think that Bulgaria has the opportunity and potential to host a European Championship for men and women in air weapons. In the world elite, Bulgarian shooters are well-known names and in leading positions. Bulgaria has not hosted a major championship for many years and this will be an opportunity for the federation and the country to return to the international stage. Each host brings with it a number of benefits for the popularity of the sport. It is not insignificant that it will provide new opportunities for the Bulgarian athletes,” commented Vessela Letcheva.
During the meeting in Baku, the reports of the president of the federation, the presidium and the financial department were approved.
Bulgaria was represented by the president of the Bulgarian Shooting Union, Vessela Letcheva, and by Iliya Kirilov, president of the trap, double trap and skeet federation.
