Vessela Letcheva was elected vice president of the European Shooting Confederation during the General Assembly held in Yerevan, Armenia.
Letcheva, who is a two-time Olympic medalist, five-time world and eight-time European champion, as well as the number one shooter of the century in the world federation’s rankings, received the delegates’ votes for a four-year term. Thirteen other candidates competed for the position. Alexander Ratner, who already has one term under his belt, was re-elected as president.
Letcheva is the first Bulgarian woman to hold such a high position in the international shooting sports structures.
“For me, this is a new great responsibility, as well as an undisputed recognition. I am glad that Bulgarian shooting has earned its rightful place in international structures. From the position of vice president, I will work even more dedicatedly for the development of my favorite sport,” commented Letcheva, who was also elected president of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee on March 19.
During the two-day General Assembly, the future management program was presented to 110 representatives of European federations, and today the election of the new leadership of European shooting took place. The management priorities are related to a model that combines sports development, financial sustainability, and transparent management, as well as greater support for event organizers, investment in young and elite athletes, and technical and educational assistance for national federations.
The headquarters of the European Shooting Confederation is in Lausanne, Switzerland, which is also home to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and a number of other world and European sports federations.
