Vessela Letcheva awarded the winners in “Sportsman of the Year”

The President of the Bulgarian Shooting Union and member of the IOC Commission Vessela Letcheva awarded the winners in the “Sportsman of the Year” of Bulgaria for 2020 and 2021.

The deserving athletes did not receive their awards because of the coronavirus pandemic, due to which no public events were held or it happened under severe restrictions.

The event was attended by “Athlete of the Year” for 2021 Ivet Goranova (karate), Antoaneta Kostadinova (shooting) – №3 in the ranking for 2021, Tokyo bronze medalist Evelina Nikolova (wrestling) and the No. 1 team for 2021 – the first Olympic champions in the history of Bulgarian rhythmic gymnastics, the “diamond girls” from Vesela Dimitrova’s ensemble – Simona Dyankova, Madlen Radukanova, Laura Traats, Stefani Kiryakova and Erika Zafirova, although the latter was not present at the ceremony.

The double Olympic medallist in shooting sports expressed her gratitude after the ceremony with a post on the social network Facebook.

“It was a great honour and responsibility to award the winners of our most prestigious Sportsman of the Year poll for 2021. Because of the Covid-mercs they did not have their ceremony four years ago, but today they were able to experience again the emotion and satisfaction of their results. The belated award is even more inspiring for some who are now parents too. Congratulations to the Bulgarian Association of Sports Journalists for the great idea! Congratulations also to the best athletes of Bulgaria in 2024, who wowed the whole nation with their success,” she wrote.
