Vessela Letcheva is elected as a member of a prestigious committee at the IOC. The legend of sports shooting is now part of the specialists who will be responsible for “Public Affairs and Corporate Communications”. The Bulgarian deserved the prestigious recognition of being in the commission together with a number of luminaries of sports, science, art and economics such as Paul Schmidt, Spiros Kapralos, Kirsty Coventry and others.
The main task of the unit at the IOC is “to work on strategies to protect and promote the anatomy and neutrality of sport”. It will also advise on the role of sport and Olympism in society, as a contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and peace. Letcheva and her colleagues will recommend approaches to position the IOC as a thought leader and policy influencer on the international stage. They will help develop strategies to enable the IOC’s vision and mission in society to reach a global audience, in full alignment with the Olympism 365 strategy.
The Chairman of the Commission is Luis Alberto Moreno, former Economy Minister of Colombia and Ambassador to the USA.
Vessela Letcheva is currently the chairman of the Bulgarian Shooting Union, and before that, in the period from August 2022 to June 2023, she was the acting Minister of Sports.
