Vessela Letcheva: Hosting Winter Youth Olympic Games is a huge opportunity for the development of sports infrastructure

Hosting the Winter Youth Olympic Games is a huge opportunity for the development of sports infrastructure. This is what Vessela Letcheva, who is a member of the IOC Commission, said in an interview with Sportal.bg. A few days ago, representatives of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, sports federations and mayors of municipalities met with President Rumen Radev to discuss the possibility of our country hosting such a large forum.

According to Letcheva, it is important to have a big national goal that would bring together the representatives of the executive and local authorities, as well as the sports community and organizations.

“This was a very important meeting to start this discussion, but also to start with very concrete actions in a short time. The sports facilities that can be built will not only remain for young people, but will also give a serious restart to tourism. Such a sports forum is also the most direct and fastest track to position Bulgaria on the world map of winter sports,” Letcheva said.

The next Winter Youth Games are due in 2028 and the host has not yet been chosen.

“I believe that this task can unite the efforts of the government, municipalities and the entire sports community. The benefits of such a venture would be enormous,” Letcheva added.

She also gave the example of the sports infrastructure in Vitosha.

“I hope that Vitosha will again be fully used for skiing and tourism. I think that the only thing missing is the political will to resolve this issue so that all the environmental norms are protected and there are modern sports facilities to welcome people from the capital and beyond,” Letcheva said.
