Vessela Letcheva was named honorary citizen of Polski Trambesh. The President of the Bulgarian Shooting Union and member of the IOC committee was awarded the title during the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the town.
At a solemn ceremony, City Council President Marinetta Kuzmanova announced the new honorary citizen of the city, and in the evening Lecheva received her award in the square in the city centre.
“It is a great honour for me to receive the highest award of the Municipality of Polski Trambesh. I feel a special sense of pride. Pride that I have felt when I have climbed to the highest step, when I have listened to the Bulgarian anthem, when I have seen the Bulgarian flag flying. Pride that has sustained me all these years and as your MP. Everything built today in Polski Trambesh is the work of your efforts, no one can succeed alone,” Vessela Letcheva told the residents and guests of Polski Trambesh.
She said that during all the years of her political career she wanted to thank the people for the trust she received from them.
“I know that any investment made in sport gives health to all generations – from young to old. It educates our children, but it also gives many opportunities for success. That is why I have always tried to contribute to the development of the region, to the development of sports infrastructure in small municipalities that need it most,” Letcheva added.
President Rumen Radev attended the celebration. The Head of State congratulated the famous athlete for the latest recognition.
Earlier, Letcheva together with the town mayor Georgi Chakarov cut the ribbon of the indoor swimming pool, which is part of the local swimming complex “Dobri Dinev”.
In the past, the facility was used by hundreds of young athletes, but was closed due to poor condition and lack of investment. With funding secured from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the building has had its exterior and roof renovated. New changing rooms, filter facilities, a gas heating system and the pool itself have been repaired.
