The Minister of Youth and Sports Ivan Peshev hosted a meeting with the Board of the Association of Bulgarian Sports Federations. The organisation was established in December and the President of the Bulgarian Shooting Union and member of the IOC Commission Vessela Letcheva is its Vice President.
The association has already held meetings with the parliamentary groups of the BSP-United Left and PP-DB, with the MPs guaranteeing that they will fight for a bigger budget for Bulgarian sport, as the sports federations are demanding. They insist that 0.5% of GDP should be spent on sport, not 0.09% as it is now.
During the talks with Minister Peshev, the problems and challenges facing Bulgarian sport were discussed and proposals for improving the sector’s activities were presented.
“In me you have a partner you can count on. I will be happy to cooperate with you and achieve results together,” Peshev said.
He pledged his team to work to increase funds for sport in the country together with the Ministry of Finance and proposed to set up a working group with representatives of the association to develop the National Strategy for the Development of Physical Education and Sport.
