Vessela Letcheva made her first comment on the decision of the Sofia City Court regarding the General Assembly of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee to Euronews Bulgaria.
“This is the third instance that confirms the decisions of the General Assembly,” Letcheva said after the Sofia City Court’s decision.
BTA :: Court Dismisses One Appeal against Lecheva’s Election as BOC President, Four Still Pending
Let me remind you that on March 19, the General Meeting was held—as openly as possible, in front of all media outlets, and none of the participants challenged the decisions or expressed concerns. Complaints followed two days later. The decision of the Sofia City Court of October 29 categorically and reasonably rejects all claims of the complainants. The grounds are very specific.
The claim that the Field Hockey Federation’s power of attorney was invalid is refuted, which turned out to be a lie. The claim that the meeting was not duly convened is rejected. This was something we were also aware of, because the very fact that 83 of the 86 members of the BOC were present clearly showed that everyone had been notified as required by law and that the meeting had taken legitimate decisions. The third claim was related to my candidacy and the deadline for submitting it. The court’s decision states categorically that the deadline was met,” said Vessela Letcheva.
The newly elected BOC president recalled that this shameful saga, in which, according to her, Bulgarian sport has been unjustly involved, has been going on for seven months now.
Before the court ruling, we had the opinions of the two committees of the General Assembly, followed by two letters from the IOC, which were received after they had carefully reviewed the facts of the case. My name, that of the new secretary general, and that of the new Executive Bureau were entered several months ago in all international documents and information channels,” Letcheva reiterated.
“From now on, it is up to my colleagues, their conscience, whether they will continue to put the Bulgarian Olympic Committee and the Olympic movement to the test. Whether they will continue this shameful story in which they have involved our country,” Vessela Letcheva added.
“This week, the whole world marked that there are 100 days left until the start of the Winter Olympic Games in Milan Cortina. See if there is such a topic on the BOC website. Is there anything to suggest that our Olympic Committee is working and that the biggest sporting event is coming,” asked Lecheva, reminding us that the information channels are still being administered by the old management.
Letcheva hopes that athletes will not suffer from what is happening at the BOC.
