President Rumen Radev met with Thomas Bach at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne

IOC Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Committee member Vessela Letcheva was in the delegation

Bulgaria highly appreciates the readiness of the International Olympic Committee to support our country’s efforts and ambition to host the Youth Olympic Winter Games. This is what Bulgarian president Rumen Radev said at a meeting with IOC President Thomas Bach, which was held at the headquarters of the organization in Lausanne.

During the meeting, the IOC leadership expressed readiness to assist in the preparation of a roadmap for Bulgaria’s candidacy so that our country meets the standards for hosting the sporting event in Sofia. “Bulgaria is proud of its winter sports traditions and has gained serious experience in the organisation of international competitions. Our country also has excellent natural conditions,” President Rumen Radev said at the meeting.

In Thomas Bach’s words, the capital’s proximity to the mountains would greatly facilitate the organization of the event. It is necessary to assess the facilities and infrastructure needed to host the youth sports forum.

The Head of State said that Bulgaria was proud to be among the 14 countries that in 1896 participated in the first modern Olympic Games in Athens. During their meeting, Rumen Radev and Thomas Bach noted the contribution of the Olympic Movement to the promotion of peace and understanding between people. The meeting was attended by BOC President Stefka Kostadinova, as well as Vessela Letcheva, a member of the IOC Public Affairs and Corporate Communications Committee.

Thomas Bach welcomed President Radev at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. The exhibition traces the history of the Olympic Movement from 1896 to the present day.
