Bulgaria has great potential and excellent climatic resources for the organization of the Winter Youth Olympic Games. A successful application will require consistent and united efforts by the executive, sportsmen, media, environmental organizations and society.
This was the position taken by President Rumen Radev and experts from the field of winter sports, who discussed today in the building of the Presidency the prospects for our country to nominate its bid to host the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2028.
The meeting was attended by Vessela Letcheva, member of PACC Commission, the Secretary General of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee Belcho Goranov, the President of the Bulgarian Ski Federation Tseko Minev, the Mayor of Chepelare Municipality Boran Hadzhiev, winter sports experts.
They recalled the traditions of our country in winter sports, noting that the International Ski Federation and the Bulgarian Federation were established a century ago in the same year. At the meeting, the Head of State emphasized that the organization of such an international sports event, in addition to image benefits, will also have long-term economic and social benefits for our country, and the modernized transport infrastructure will promote tourism and sport for all in Bulgaria. The President also recalled that on his initiative last year a public discussion was held to overcome the decades-old administrative disturbances and disagreements between the institutions, the sports community and the investors to ensure environmentally friendly access to Vitosha Mountain.
They shared the opinion that a potential bid for Sofia to host the Winter Youth Olympic Games would have significant advantages over other candidates due to the unique natural conditions provided by Vitosha Mountain near the capital.
However, success can only be relied on in the timely modernization of the sports infrastructure in accordance with the current standards and procedures of the International Olympic Committee, as well as in the efforts of the entire public.
