I am deeply outraged and angry at what we witnessed last night in Sofia. The topic of sport was replaced by ugly scenes, scandals, violence. I have said many times that running individual public sports organizations does not end with the question of fighting for your post. You need to be able to manage processes so that it benefits the organization whose leader you are.
This was stated by the former Minister of Youth and Sports, member of the IOC committee and Chairman of the Bulgarian Shooting Union Vessela Letcheva.
Leшcheva spoke to Actualno.com about last night’s riots in Sofia, the injured police officers and fans, the burned cars, the broken objects after the protest against the ruling board of the BFU.
“Very important is the measure of decency. When you violate this measure, such unpleasant consequences occur. You can’t be 18 years in football, you can’t see that you’ve lost the trust of the football community, the fans and the people and you can’t make the right decision”, she said.
“Unfortunately, those guys we’ve known since 1994 who have made us proud of their achievements will go down in history today for not being successful in running football. In people’s minds will remain last night’s picture, not that of successes. It is important to be able to leave when you are no longer useful,” said the five-time world shooting champion, adding that for an athlete the most important thing should be honor and dignity.
